The Task:
Even in today's day and age, parents think twice before considering a career in S.T.E.M. for their girls. What could we do to change this mindset and urge more parents to encourage their daughters towards a career in STEM?
The Thought:
Of the words often used for women in headlines, the term ‘First’ has been used over 8000+ times, across the globe. Even today, a time where we pride ourselves on the grounds of progressiveness.
Women’s underrepresentation in every field, especially in STEM, still turns their feats into headlines such as ‘First woman to…’ instead of their actual achievement.
Our initiative with Unacademy focuses on making parents see the difference between ‘The First Woman’ and ‘Yet Another Woman’ when it comes to women in headlines, by motivating them to overcome stereotypes and encourage their daughters to pursue a career in STEM.
